Amid speculation about the Grizzlies star’s future in Memphis, a potential offseason trade scenario involving Ja Morant and the New Orleans Pelicans has arisen, with NBA writer Evan Sidery outlining a realistic framework for a trade.

According to Sidery, one possible transaction would send Morant to New Orleans, where the Pelicans are seeking for a long-term point guard and a dynamic offensive centerpiece to pair with Zion Williamson.

Proposed trade framework

Pelicans receive:

Ja Morant

Grizzlies get:

Dejounte Murray
Jordan Hawkins.
Second-round draft picks

The plan imagines New Orleans taking a high-upside gamble on Morant’s superior athleticism and playmaking ability, while Memphis rebuilds its roster around a proven veteran guard, a bright young shooter, and more draft flexibility.

Morant’s future with the Grizzlies has become a major subject around the league after another injury-plagued season. The 26-year-old played in only 20 games this season, averaging 19. 5 points and 8. 1 assists.

Despite being one of the NBA’s most explosive guards when healthy, Morant has only played 50 or more games in one of his previous three seasons.

Murray could provide the Grizzlies with a more consistent backcourt option, with playoff expertise and two-way versatility.
